"Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, 32which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
In this passage, Jesus is speaking parables to the multitudes telling them about what the Kingdom of heaven is like. There was so many people there that Jesus had to get on a boat to speak to them. When His disciples asked Him why he spoke to the people in parables, he told them that it was because those who had been given understanding to the Kingdom of heaven would receive them. After telling the parable of the Sower and the wheat and the tares, He goes on to tell this parable. The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed which is the smallest of all but when it is grown, it is the greatest most biggest herb. In this parable the tiny seed represents the ways of Gods Kingdom.
For example in the worlds perspective, Putting your trust in God when you cant see him, is so hard to understand and do. And it is considered small and a form of weakness when you respond with love in the face of pride or hatred. And the biggest example is when Jesus gave his life on the cross for our sin, instead of taking over Rome and leading the nation to freedom from there oppressors.
When these things happened the world looked at Jesus and mocked him saying that if he truly had power he could save himself from death on the cross and come off of it. But they could not see the magnificent powerful ways of Gods kingdom, and when Jesus arose from the grave they did not believe it. Now the world is shocked and put to shame when God manifests His power in those who are considered small and week.
This is the ways of The Kingdom of Heaven, and if we want to grasp this and receive it then we must surrender to God and let go of trying to be the greatest or despising the smallest. When you see the greatness of Gods Kingdom everything else dulls in comparison. When You will put your trust in Him and let him have your weaknesses, He will manifest His glory through you.
Pray with me: God, thank you for what you have done so that I can be a part in what you are doing.
I give you my weaknesses, my disabilities, and I lay down my pride, and My fear, and I ask that you give me a heart that is after you. In you I have everything I need. Your will be done.
