Sanctify Yourself

Joshua 7:11-13 NKJV

"Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you. Get up, sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the Lord God of Israel: “ There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you.”

At this moment, one of the Israelites named Achan took one of the accursed pieces of treasure from the city of Jericho even though the lord had specifically instructed them to touch no accursed thing. Even though the act seemed small at the moment, it would later cost Israel a great defeat for their next battle. What should have been an easy battle, embarrassed the Israelites, all because they failed to sanctify themselves, and burn what God had told them was evil. The Lord told the Israelites that because of Achan's disobedience, they were required to burn him and all he had to cleanse themselves.

What does this mean for us? We must sanctify ourselves. Let no accursed thing lay among yourselves. No crystals, witchcraft, nothing that would be seen as evil in the eyes of the Lord. Sometimes, the things they are holding us back from sanctifying ourselves aren't even necessarily evil but they become a stumbling block in our process of sanctification.

Pray this with me,

Lord, is there anything in me that is holding me back from being sanctified unto you? Is there anything that has become a stumbling block in my life? Search my heart Lord. Show me what is to be rooted out.

Pray and ask the Lord to search you and be open for correction.
